      BEDFORD COUNTY DEPUTY’S ASSOCIATION 
BY-LAWS

ARTICLE II - Purpose

The Bedford County Deputy's Association will support and defend the constitution of the United States of America.  We will unite employees who are law enforcement officers toward a common goal; the prevention of crime and apprehension of offenders.  We will encourage social, charitable and educational activities among our members.  The Association will be voluntary and beneficial in nature, providing benefits and services to our members consistent with public policy and service.

ARTICLE II - Character

SECTION 1

The Bedford County Deputy's Association is an organization consisting of Deputies and duly appointed associate and honorary members. 

SECTION 2
The Bedford County Deputy's Association is non-sectarian and shall have no affiliation, directly or indirectly, with any labor union or similar organization by whatever name known.  The association shall not strike, or by concerted action cause a cessation of the performance of law enforcement duties, or induce members to do likewise.  The association shall not advocate the violent overthrow of the United States Government by force, subversion, disloyalty, or induce any member to do likewise.

ARTICLE III - Membership 

SECTION 1
Any regularly appointed and full/part time employed Bedford County Deputy shall be eligible for membership.  No person shall be denied membership on the account of race, creed or sex.  Membership to law enforcement candidates and non-law enforcement candidates shall be made by a majority vote of the Bedford County Deputy's Association general membership present at the Association meeting.

 SECTION 2
(A)     The term "regularly appointed Deputy” shall include regular deputies here to for and hereafter retired from active duty.

(B)    The term "full time employed Deputy" shall mean deputies who are engaged in such employment as their principle source of livelihood.

(C)    The term “part time employed Deputy” shall mean deputies who are engaged in such employment with the department, regardless of the position, offering their services on a part time basis.

SECTION 3
The Association shall have (3) three classes of members.  They are:
 

(A)  Active Members:
A law enforcement member in good standing who has paid all dues and assessments as of the dates specified and who-adheres to all rules and laws established by the association.

(B)     Inactive Members:
a member not in good standing as defined above.

(C)    Associate Member:
A member who is not a law enforcement officer and has been voted in by majority vote of the Bedford County Deputy's Association general membership present at the Association meeting.

 
SECTION 4

(A)     Upon receipt of an application for membership, the name of the candidate shall be presented to the association for approval and voted in by majority vote of the general membership present at the Bedford County Deputy's Association meeting.


SECTION 5

 Membership shall be terminated in the following ways:

(A)    By death
(B)     By request of the member
(C)     By the membership present when a member has been found to be willfully or wantonly negligent in complying with the established rules and by-laws of the association or has performed any act deemed injurious to the best interests and objectives of the association.  The decision of the majority vote of the membership is final.
